Heat strengthened tempered glass

Tempered glass is produced by heating annealed glass in a furnace to approximate 700℃ and rapidly blowing cool air onto its surface. this rapid cooling process is the key element in the physical changes in annealed glass; it creates additional stresses within the glass. therefore, it is more resistant to thermal breakage and is capable of withstanding higher wind loads.

The process of heat strengthening is similar to that of tempering, however, in this instance the glass is quenched at a slower rate. the result is the glass tension is less than that of the tempered glass. heat strengthened glass offers a good resistance to bending and thermal shock. in the event of breakage, the breakage pattern is linear and the fragments are more likely to remain in place with the frame.
